Tool : P.O.Y.

Packaging of the year?

If such an award were given out at the Grammies, Tool would be the odds on favorite. I just picked up the new Tool and Pearl Jam at lunch (currently being proselytized by the tool gospel). Anyhoo the Tool packaging features a "stereo-scope" lens that you use to look at their album art. It's the same thing cartographers used to use when looking at orthophotography in 3-D... it ups the ante on their last album cover.

  2. Transcendent aural milieu, sheathed in plentiful hallucinogenic visual distractions. Translation: Good music in a cool box.

Nice observation Pat. All that about the box and no mention of the quality of the music.

If you want me to take a crap in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will, I have time...

I have heard repeatedly, "It's not what Tool fans expected, but exactly what they wanted." Whatever the fuck that says.

  3. I really only listened to the first track in the car before I posted the pic... and yea I don't get that quote either "It's not what Tool fans expected, but exactly what they wanted."

IMHO: it seems like they picked up right where they left off with Lateralus... clasic bad ass. There's lots of intricate layers which all sort of work together in a mystic/organic way. There's one section of guitar that I swear is right off of lateralus... Track 5 maybe.
