Arena, the longest-serving manager of any in this summer's tournament in Germany, has picked a blend of domestic and European-based players.
Captain Claudio Reyna, who will be going to his fourth World Cup, is one of seven English-based players chosen.
That list includes Manchester United keeper Tim Howard and two players from Premiership new-boys Reading, Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey.
Arena believes the experience of his squad could prove beneficial, and singled out Manchester City's fit-again Reyna for special mention.
"I feel very good about this group of players," Arena said. "It's a group that will challenge anybody on the field in this World Cup.
If i'm honest, I agree. This is a strong looking team. I know it consists of good players, but know little of Bruce Arena's tectical knowledge...which i think will be the key to moudling these undoubtedly talented players into a team who can challenge.
He's a sharp guy. He's won a ton of NCAA championships, and several MLS championships. He even has a US cap. During the last world cup he had the US play two different styles to take advantage of their inherent strengths and weaknesses.

ReplyDeleteAs Erick said, Sir Bruce is indeed a first-rate coach, and this is a first-rate squad .. would have liked to see Twellman make it over Wolff, but other than that I have no complaints
