Online maps 'wiping out history'

Internet mapping is wiping the rich geography and history of Britain off the map, the president of the British Cartographic Society has said.

Mary Spence said internet maps such as Google and Multimap were good for driving but left out crucial data people need to understand a landscape.

  1. Interesting article... I can see where they're coming from. But I think the positives out weigh the negatives at this point. People interact with maps more than they ever have in the past.

This type of discussion always reminds me of Monmonier's "How to Lie with Maps". As with any peice of information one should always got to consider the source and their agenda / world view.
