Landmark Reached

Before the SuperBowl even kicked off a true hero of 'real' football had just notched up another goal and thus become Newcastle United Greatest EVER goal scorer. Newcastle were on the point of losing just after the half-time break when Shearer did what he'd done 200 times previously for his hometown club - grabbing the goal that took him past the great Jackie Milburn to become the club's greatest ever goalscorer.

There were shades of Kevin Keegan's debut goal as the ball went fittingly into the Gallowgate net after Shola Ameobi had back-heeled the ball into his path on the edge of box. Big Al dispatched the ball under Kiely from eight yards to send the ground bananas.

The players and their captain/Assistant Manager celebrated in the Strawberry Corner and even the referee gave the record-breaker a handshake.

  1. So with Souness out he's player / assistant manager... that's a lot of power. Go Shearer! That had to be pretty cool to watch, are there highlights on the BBC or sky webpage?
