Google Earth Is Cool

Alright, I've spent a litte more time fooling around with google earth and its really cool for looking at terrain. If you're ever camping or going to a remote place, fire up google maps to get a bird's eye view. Another great feature is the ability to share your favorite locations. I've got 5 for you to download so you can re-live the Grand Canyon Hiking trip that Ed and Witten and I went on. Just download these files and open them with google maps. Once their loaded into you temporary places just order them accordingly and make sure they are the only ones turned on then press the play button or go up to view and click play tour. The title of this post will take you to the google earth download page if you haven't installed it yet.

Carter, could you put together some bookmarks from your tour in Iraq? What about editing the description so we can tell where your flickr pictures came from... if you can do this just email them to me and I'll post them here. Gorman, what about your crazy trip home from the far east... or your China excursion with Ka. Brit you could post stuff from your Spain trip. Anyhoo... just right click on these links and select save target / link as. Be patient with the downloads, using ourmedia.org account (free, but not fast or 100% reliable).

  1. You can turn on the roads... I searched for gradn canyon and used the roads... also some of the features are labeled... like lipan point. The observation tower on navajo point helped too.
