Damn it Ka! I was about 2 minutes away from posting this! From the article - Some call it "White Guy Window Dressing." To others, it's known as the "White Guy in a Tie" events, or "The Token White Guy Gig."
Haha - I actually have a Cuban friend who did this - He found the job on one of the big ex-pat websites.. it was a several day conference where he had to walk around, hand out business cards, and go to banquets. He said the banquets were pretty stressful because he was sitting with other foreigners and speaking English and pretending to be whoever he was supposed to be.. all the while not knowing who else was also faking and who was legit! I met him here at my language school - and then early this year he booked a flight to Cuba that transferred in Toronto.. In Toronto he left the airport, got on a bus bound for the U.S., and when they reached the border he turned himself into the U.S. immigration authorities and asked for asylum. Now he's living in Jersey!
So glad to hear you're alive and well!
