Snuggie vs. Slanket vs. Freedom Blanket vs. Blankoat

As a proud snuggie owner (thanks Traci!) I found this article very insightful. While the snuggie does the job, it does come off a little cheap. Maybe it's the fact that it's available at just about every retail outlet imaginable or the fact that it smells like gasoline when you pull it out of the box / bag for the first time.

ATB - Not sure if the snuggie has concoured Ireland, the UK, or mainland Europe yet, but give it time. There's something undeniable about the snuggie (youtube commercial)

Regardless; I am now in the market for a Slanket, the clear winner in Gizmodo's comparison test. For all you high rollers out there check out the blankoat... a $350 version of the snuggie made out of Icelandic wool.

For those of you who don't feel like visiting the site for the full story, here's the closing argument.

Here's what you should take away. Get the Slanket if you're serious about staying warm while lying on your couch, the Freedom Blanket if you're not. Nobody anywhere should buy the Snuggie. The Blankoat is for rich people who can afford Icelandic wool. Bathrobes do not work, no matter how much you wish them to.

  1. don't forget that you can always wear a trash bag if you want to go outdoors too. I like sleeping bags where the zipper opens on the bottom too so you can walk around in a sleeping bag.
