PROUD Geordie Sam Smith has been named Britain’s hairiest man after beating thousands of men up and down the country in a national competition.
Sam, of Blaydon, Gateshead, says his mass of body hair has been the butt of jokes with his friends for years.
And why he has a spotless shiny bald head when the rest of his body is covered in thick dark fuzz has puzzled his wife Debra for years.
But Sam had the last laugh when he bagged £1,000 after winning the competition run by a glossy magazine.
“It’s a running joke of the family that I’ve had a moustache since I was 13,” said Sam, who works at the MetroCentre.
“People come up and ask if they can take pictures of my back and chest.
“They ask me if they can wax it for me.”
Sam was nominated for the award by Debra, who secretly sent some photographs of her husband’s Austin Powers-like chest to London.
