Interesting article in the other paper this week. It runs down the OSU athletic department's strategy to promote Troy Smith and Ted Ginn equally for the heismen trophy. They're telling media outlets that if you interview one, you need to mention the other. At the same time they also go over some heisman stats... like only two wide receivers have ever won a heisman, with running backs have taken home the most and quarterbacks not far behind... the moral of the story being that OSU would likely get more "bank for the buck" if they focused their marketing on Smith only.Perhaps the best part of the article is towards the end where they discuss the 2006 Michigan Football Media guide... which interestingly makes no mention of last years 7-5 season. Here is said paragraph in it's entirety... un-be-fucking-lievable.
Denial is a river in Ann Arbor
Think long and hard, and you just might remember the University of Michigan fielding a football team way back in 2005.
There remains photographic and written evidence that the team did play a total of 12 games that year. The Wolverines went 7-5 their worst record since 1984 and finished up the year by losing to Ohio State at home and Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl.
Apparently, the folks at the athletics department in Ann Arbor have no recollection of those events.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the 208-page 2006 Michigan football media guide refuses to acknowledge the existence of the 05 Wolverines. No recap. No stats.
It opens with an 84-page photo spread of past success, without any mention of the 2005 squad. Even Illinois, which won two games last year, recaps the 2005
season in its media guide. The guide was even renamed Michigan Football Tradition from simply Michigan Football in an effort to shift focus to the team's dominant history from its Tressel-dominated present, the Free Press stated.

So I'd just like to remind everyone that the "loss" to Nebraska in last year's Alamo Bowl was one of the most fucking ridiculous debacles in all of recorded college football history and probably should be forgotten by all man kind. Unfortunately, that moment when the entire Nebraska football team was on the field while the ball was still in play and no flag was thrown and no time was put back on the clock will forever be torched into my grey matter.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I require no reminders of Ohio State's dominance over the past 5 years. Fuck Ohio State and GO BLUE!
