We boosted our meagre attacking options late on Thursday by agreeing a four-month loan deal with Manchester United for their promising reserve forward Giuseppe Rossi (pictured).
The 19 year-old was born in New Jersey, USA and moved with his parents back to Italy at the age of 13 to take up a place at Parma's Youth Academy.
Rossi signed for Man U just over two years ago from Parma for a fee of £200K and operates as a left-sided striker - although he is reputed to be two-footed.
October 2005 saw a Premiership debut from the bench for Rossi as he took less than ten minutes to score in a 3-1 win at the mackems.
He finished as top scorer in the Premier Reserve League last season with 26 strikes from 26 games, ahead of former Magpie Michael Chopra, who managed 14 in 16 games for us.
That total included a hat trick at Hyde against Newcastle in February, while the previous season had seen him net again us at both reserve and Academy level.
And this season saw him begin in similar fashion, scoring twice in Man U's reserve season opener at Preston.
Rossi recently signed a two year contract extension keeping him at Old Trafford until 2010 and has represented Italy at all youth levels from U16 onwards (opting for the Azzurri despite strong interest from the US national side.)
His U21 debut came earlier this month in a 0-0 draw against Croatia and he's been selected in the Italian squad for an upcoming pair of European Qualifiers - away in Iceland this Friday and a home game against Austria in Forlì on Tuesday 5th.
As part of the loan deal provisions, Rossi won't be eligible to feature when we travel to Old Trafford for a Premiership fixture in October.
