After a few days of being back in Columbus I've finally posted the first wave of pictures to flickr. This one is from Great Harbor, the "main drag" on Jost. We're eating lunch at Ali Baba's... this is an island where shoes and shirt are strictly optional. Overall the trip was a blast falling asleep and waking up with the waves in the background and a beautiful tropical beach just outside your window was exactly what I needed.

Each day we'd wake up eat a light breakfast, then sit on the porch, relax, check out the boats as they entered or left White bay, maybe do some reading, but otherwise I switched my brain into relax mode. We went out once or twice a day for some snorkeling. A friend of mine at work hooked me up with an underwater camera which took some good pics, I'll try and scan them in so you can get a taste of the caribbean fish and coral we encountered.

The only negative thing that happened on the trip was Traci's cash was stolen from her purse while we were away from the house. She lost about $300, which freaked us out considering we always heard there was no crime on the island. It was interesting to see how people there dealt with it... Ivan, the owner of Ivan's stress free bar became stressed. Also, the 78 native residents essentially figured out who the 'usual suspect' was and had him arrested. There's more to this story but I'll keep this post short and sweet... expect more over the next couple of days... oh yea and watch out for Big Gay Ed's cooking and bar tending videos.

Your sunny tropical pictures make me wonder why i moved back to this grey place....oh, and it's cold too.
ReplyDeleteAnybody want to adopt me so i can live somewhere warm?
It's a tad bit muggy here in Columbus, 86 degrees with 55% humidity... although at least it's sunny... Newcastle = 64 83% humidity and occasional showers.
ReplyDeleteThose photos are great. It makes me want to go swiming. But swimming in the Ohio would probably require some sort of an anti-pollution body suit.
ReplyDeleteParadise. Were you on JVD? Where's Gertrude? And the goats with the basketball sized testicles? (Not you Carter) Was the OSU fan still runnin a restaurant there? Glad to see the Red Stripe in full effect too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an amazing time. So you rented a house? nice. We stayed in St. John but went to JVD on a snorkling trip... we want to go again. And Pat, I haven't been called a goat with basketball-sized testicles in weeks.
ReplyDeleteNever got a good close up look at the goats or their reproductive organs. Anyhoo, there's some more pics up... and even some with the goats. I also realized that I never took a picture inside Ivan's and there's only a couple that include locals... I often feel self conscious about taking tons of pictures cause I want to 'fit in' and not stand out as a tourist... but I guess my pictures suffer because of that... when in Rome do as Romans right?
