The Jost With the Most

Here’s another post with some pictures from our trip to Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands. Yea, I know you’ve probably seen the rest of the pictures over on flickr but here’s some text to explain things further. Ok… Remember Traci’s money got stolen by a guy named “Chicky”. Well it turns out Chicky is the cousin of Dean (pictured here with Marissa). As I mentioned before there are only 78 residents on the island, in turn Dean is related to Foxy the head of the Callwood family. Foxy is a man of many titles who runs a great bar / restaurant and entertains the people who come into Great Harbor... Ed found a book about Foxy and got it signed. Here’s the four of us with Foxy eating dinner and drinking his home brew beers.

One of the best/worst days involved a dingy trip to Sandy Key, an uninhabited island. To start off with our tank was about a third full, and cruising against the Caribbean current with four passengers can be painfully slow at times. It took us 20-30 minutes to get there and we spent time walking the island’s trail and snorkeling its' reef. After about an hour or so a group of storm clouds came over head. With no real shelter from the rain we decided to hop in the dingy thinking we could beat the storm home. With four people we clearly weren’t going to make it all the way back to White Bay so we decide to beach the boat on the nearest stretch of beach could see. This stretch of beach was clearly marked on our map as “DO NOT LAND HERE" as the reef comes very close to the surface. So after barely clearing the reef we finally beach the boat and found shelter under a big palm tree. We also found a stash of lawn furniture to sit on as we waited out the storm for what felt like forever. Anyway long story short, the rest of my pictures have been posted to flickr so check them out. I’ve yet to finish commenting and titling all of them but I’ll get to it over time. Also there's a set of underwater pictures that I need to scan... anyone out there have an operating scanner?

  1. Badass.

I'm guessing that if it were up to you and Ed, you two would still be sitting on JVD under a palmtree somewhere..

  2. I've got a scanner... but I'm 2000 miles away. Looks like an amazing time though. Renting a house seems like a great way to go. Stef and I want to do it next year I guess.

  3. I'd be down with doing a similar trip for sure. After work last week I couldn't get Jost out of my mind... I kept thinking to my self... I really need a pain killer (mixed drink on the island). Which reminds me... next time you mix up a rum based drink... something like a pina colada... sprinkle some nutmeg on top... its a Caribbean thing I guess... and it rocks... Hendocs needs to make it their specialty.
