I heard last night on the news that a bunch of soldiers were injured and a few killed in "Operation Matador." Apparently, most of the soldiers in the platoon were based out of Columbus. Here's an article I found on the attack.http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/05/14/iraq.main/index.html
Here's another article:http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2005/05/14/marines_families_await_word_from_iraq/
That's insane... thanks for finding these stories.
So the deal is that Rob was hit by some schrapnel from a grenade while some other guys were clearing a building. Aparently some hit him in the ass, some in the back of his legs and some in his lower back. There was fairly serious nerve damage but he is no up and moving around a little using crutches. He is still in Iraq but will likely go to kuiwate for further medical assesment. If you would like his address to write him let me know and I will email it to you. From what I heard it sound like under the circumstances he is doing pretty well(no infections conditions improving from when it first happened).
I guess thats good news... its probably too early, but does anyone know if he'd be getting a medical discharge for this... i.e. will he be back soon?
Ed's planning on putting together a series of care packages for Rob. He's planning on putting them together tonight and mailing them tomorrow. If you've got some cash or want to send anything along try and reach ed.
According to Dan this should buy Rob a ticket home. We should find out how long he'll be there to know if a care package will be able to get to him before he ships out.
